Thermal analysis, calorimetry and gas sorption applications

SCIENCES DES MATERIAUX INORGANIQUES

Pour ces matériaux particuliers, nous vous proposons des solutions uniques pour caractériser tous les événements thermiques du Cp aux transitions de phase, le taux de frittage, ainsi que la performance à long terme sous atmosphère agressive (prédiction des comportements d’oxydation et de corrosion).

	Céramiques, verres, minéraux
	Les céramiques sont des matériaux inorganiques et non-métalliques. Qu'elles soient techniques, réfractaires..., elles sont généralement mises en forme à partir d'une pâte crue à température ambiante et acquièrent les propriétés qui leur sont propres au cours d'un processus de frittage à haute température.

	Métaux, alliages
	L'Analyse Thermique et la Calorimétrie sont des outils indispensables pour caractériser, optimiser et vérifier les nouveaux métaux et alliages.

	Electronique
	La miniaturisation des composants électroniques implique des conditions thermiques difficiles pour les matériaux placés à l'intérieur des puces et des revêtements. L'analyse Thermique et la Calorimétrie sont des outils essentiels pour caractériser, optimiser et contrôler ces matériaux.

ENERGIE ET ENVIRONNEMENT

L’exigence d’une énergie toujours plus propre et plus accessible offre de nombreux thèmes de recherche. Nous avons créé un ensemble de solutions clé en main pour des sujets aussi différents que l’étude de sorption de gaz (CO₂, H₂, CH₄ …), l’évaluation de l’efﬁcacité et de la sécurité des batteries, la formation des hydrates de gaz, et meme l’évaluation non destructive des déchets nucléaires.

Nucléaire

Depuis l’extraction du minerai jusqu’au recyclage du combustible et à la gestion des déchets, chaque étape du cycle de l'énergie nucléaire nécessite une caractérisation des différents matériaux employés ainsi qu’une quantification précise des éléments radioactifs. L’analyse thermique et la calorimétrie peuvent alors apporter des réponses précises à chacune de ces interrogations.

Pile à combustible & Hydrogène

L'hydrogène peut être produit comme un combustible propre et stockable à partir des énergies primaires non-fossiles—solaire, éolien, hydraulique, la biomasse, la géothermie, le nucléaire, ou encore les marées. Le stockage de l'hydrogène dans des matériaux solides est une des solutions sûre et efficace pour stocker l'énergie, à la fois pour des applications stationnaires et mobiles concernant les piles à combustibles. Les techniques calorimétriques sont idéales pour étudier les capacités de stockage de divers matériaux sous une pression normale et élevée. Les techniques thermiques sont aussi utilisées pour les études sur les céramiques et les matériaux utilisés dans les piles à combustibles.

Capture et séquestration de C02

La génération d'énergie neutre en carbone ne repose pas uniquement sur le développement des énergies renouvelables mais également sur la mise en place de technologie pour rendre les sources d'énergie, existantes et futures, plus éco-responsables.
Un des domaines essentiels de recherche concerne la capture et la séquestration de CO2 et SETARAM propose une large gamme de technologie très utile dans ce domaine.

	Batteries
	Batteries are essential power sources for every application from your new MP3 player, to the development of carbon neutral transportation. As demand for new and more powerful battery packs grows so do materials requirements. Setaram offers you a broad range of technologies for your laboratory, including traditional TGA and DSC as well as Gas Sorption techniques.

	Biomasse
	Thermogravimetry allows acquiring data on biomass decomposition (combustion, torrefaction or pyrolysis) steps involving mass losses. Simultaneous differential scanning calorimetry detects all the heat effects of the sample, and volatiles can be transferred to gas analyzers for identification.

Energies fossiles

Les Energies Fossiles sont présentes dans la nature sous différents aspects: solide, liquide ou gazeux.
La majeure partie de ces énergies est directement brûlée comme combustible, carbonisée ou distillée afin de produire des combustibles secondaires.
Le traitement Thermique revêt une importance capitale dans les utilisations des énergies fossiles. L' Analyse Thermique et la Calorimétrie sont en effet d'un intérêt réel dans ce domaine, par exemple pour le pétrole brut, le charbon, shistes bitumineux ou les huiles lourdes concernant leur classification et caractérisation, pour leur transformation thermique ou encore leur procédé de combustion.

Catalyseurs & Adsorbants

Catalysts are generally used to lower the energy input necessary for a chemical reaction to occur and to increase the corresponding reaction rate. On the industrial scale, it allows running reactions at temperatures lower than those that are naturally requested. Catalytic reaction schemes often go through a first step of adsorption of at least one of the reactants, and can thus be studied as simple adsorbents. Adsorbents such as zeolites, active carbons, MOF’S are also investigated for their properties of gas storage (hydrogen, CO₂). Thermogravimetry and volumetry are techniques allowing the quantification of the adsorbate, and calorimetry provides key data for the determination of the strength and nature of the interactions.

Hydrates de Gaz

Bien que les hydrates de gaz soient connus pour leur capacité à stocker de grandes quantités de méthane avec alors d’importantes implications dans le domaine des ressources énergétiques, leur contrôle naturel et leur influence sur l’environnement restent mal connus. Avec l’adaptation technique de la DSC aux mesures sous haute pression, la calorimétrie s’avère la technique la mieux adaptée pour prédire la formation des hydrates de gaz, pour déterminer leurs propriétés thermodynamiques et suivre la cinétique de formation et de dissociation quelque soit le gaz ou le mélange.

SECURITE DES PROCEDES

Pour ce domaine, nous avons conçu une gamme de systèmes capables de mesurer, en une seule expérience, la montée en température et la montée en pression qui accompagnent une décomposition, ainsi que les données cinétiques correspondantes, permettant ainsi d’accéder à la détermination de la stabilité à long terme des matériaux et formulations.

Nous avons développé toute une gamme d’accessoires pour nos microcalorimètres aﬁn de vous permettre d’étudier le développement de nouveaux principes actifs et de formulations. Nos instruments vous offrent un éventail complet de solutions pour caractériser la stabilité, la biodisponibilité, le polymorphisme et autres sujets connexes, sur des échantillons sous forme solide, liquide ou bien aqueuse (protéine).

De la même façon, le développement et l’amélioration des formulations alimentaires requièrent la compréhension des produits bruts comme des produits transformés sous les mêmes conditions extrêmes que celles utilisées dans les usines de transformation. Notre gamme d’instruments, conçue pour ce domaine, présente ainsi les caractéristiques nécessaires telle qu’une taille représentative d’échantillon, une haute résolution et une grande ﬂexibilité.

Pharmacie

Polymorphisme,solubilité, stabilité, pureté, phase amorphe et hydratation sont des paramètres clés de ce secteur d'activité.
L'élaboration d'un principe actif (API), nécessite la détermination de sa biocompatibilité et biodisponibilité, l'analyse thermique et la calorimétrie s'avèrent alors de parfaits outils permettant une caractérisation complète et la résolution de nombreux problèmes.

Alimentaire

De nouvelles contraintes pèsent sur les industries agroalimentaires depuis quelques années. La recherche d’une forte compétitivité dans un contexte concurrentiel exacerbé, les exigences de la grande distribution, la concentration des centrales d’achat, les contraintes sanitaires, réglementaires et environnementales obligent les entreprises à se doter ou à renforcer leurs fonctions commerciales, qualité et recherche et développement.

SCIENCES DES MATERIAUX ORGANIQUES

Setaram a développé une gamme d’instruments qui vous permet de déterminer les différentes caractéristiques de vos matériaux (Tg transition vitreuse, cristallinité, propriétés d’oxydation, température de décomposition, expansion thermique, taux de réticulation…) même sous des conditions expérimentales extrêmes de haute température ou de haute pression, sous atmosphère corrosive ou agressive.

Polymères

Les polymères sont largement utilisés et sous les formes les plus diverses, des solides les plus communs tels que les thermoplastiques, élastomères ou thermodurcissables, aux solutions comme les stabilisants, émulsifiants, agents épaississants ou encore les additifs pour peintures, revêtements, etc. La nature spécifique et complexe des polymères nécessite de nombreuses techniques physico-analytiques pour leur caractérisation. L'analyse thermique est l'une des techniques la plus appropriée car elle s'applique à toutes les étapes, du développement de nouvelles formulations à la fabrication et à la caractérisation des produits finis.
